Shapleigh Board of Selectmen

Meeting Minutes - Time 7:00pm

Tuesday, December 11, 2018

William J. Mageary, Chairman called the meeting to order at 7:00pm on Tuesday, December 11, 2018 with Michael S. Perro and Jennifer J. Roux in attendance. Town Administrator Karla Bergeron was not able to make the meeting.

In Attendance: Duffy Gold, Skip Bartosch, Nancy Small and Ronald Legere

Approval of minutes from previous meeting: Jennifer Roux made a motion to approve the minutes from the December 4, 2018 minutes, seconded by William Mageary. Michael Perro abstained as he was not present at the 4th meeting. Motion carried.

Public Comment:

Duffy Gold updated the Board on the last CIC meeting. Ron Taylor from the Maine Department of Transportation came down and inspected the bridge; the committee is awaiting his written opinions. Additional conversations were had surrounding the Emery Mills Bridge, pedestrian concerns and guardrails.

Unfinished Business:

A lengthy discussion took place regarding the cost of educational classes for the Rescue Chief of Service. The Board, as a whole supported this, as long as funds are available however the Board has continued concerns with the written agreement that was submitted. Chairman Mageary will ask the Town Administrator to contact the Rescue Chief.

Selectman Roux updated the other Selectmen regarding the Rescue Election held the week before. After a secret ballot election, Mike Deshaies and Bryant Jackson both received 4 votes for the Chief, while Kevin Romano received 3. Lindsey Hunt and Lindsey Lacourse received the same number of votes for Treasurer and Secretary. The question as to whether or not the Treasurer position should have been on the ballot was discussed. Rescue chief to follow up.

Selectman Roux brought up the “free” items table at the Transfer Station. She informed the others that numerous people had concerns and were upset to see it go. After discussion, the Board agreed to revisit this in a view months.

Selectman Roux indicated she received concerns from a Rescue Member that the Ambulance recently got stuck on Granny Kent Pond Road. According to the member, this road is often in poor condition in the winter. Road Commissioner Burnell will be asked to reach out to the Contractor to handle.
