SPECIAL TOWN MEETING
Voters are encouraged to attend the Special Town Meeting which will be held at the Shapleigh Town Hall on Tuesday, October 2, 2012 at 7 pm. The purpose of the meeting is to vote on whether or not to appropriate money from undesignated funds for a contract deputy sheriff. Currently Acton is also seeking to have a special town meeting tonight for the same purpose. If both towns vote to do this it will be a sharing of contract deputy services of 40 hours per week divided between Shapleigh and Acton at a cost of $20,000 for each town. If Acton votes it down then Shapleigh has an article which asks for $40,000 for the whole cost. This has been made possible because of a federal grant which was awarded to the York County Sheriff's Dept.
The contract would be for 4 years, 3 of those being at the cost indicated above. In the 4th year the town would be funding the entire amount .The vehicle which would have been supplied by the Sheriff's Dept for the first 3 years would then belong half to Shapleigh and half to Acton.

FALL AND WINTER HOURS
The Shapleigh Transfer Station will be changing over to fall and winter hours as of October 1, 2012. The facility will be open on Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday from 10 am to 4 pm.
Heads of all town departments have been notified of the schedule for submitting budgets and proposed warrant articles for the 2013 annual town meeting. The Selectmen have set the date of Saturday, March 9, 2013..
The deadline for submitting all budgets and proposed warrant articles is Friday, October 12, 2012.
The Selectmen review the budgets and prepare warrant articles from Friday, October 19, 2012 to January 3, 2013.
The Budget Committee will review warrant articles, hold public meetings, and make recommendations on the articles from Tuesday,, November 13,2012 to January 20, 2013.
All letters to be included in the Town Report must be submitted by Friday, January 4, 2013 in order to be included in the annual town report.
The final warrant will be prepared Friday, January 25, 2013.
The final warrant will be submitted to the printer on Friday, February 8, 2013.
The final warrant will be posted Tuesday, February 22, 2013.
The annual election of officers and officials will take place at the Town Hall on Friday, March 8, 2013 from 9 am to 8 pm. Then the meeting will be recessed until 9 am Saturday, March 9, 2013 at the Shapleigh Memorial School to act on the remainder of articles in the warrant. The Town Clerk/Registrar of Voters will be in her office during regular hours for the convenience of Shapleigh residents who wish to register to vote.
